Joining Halo PC games
Some listed games use Halo PC (Custom Edition) or HaloMD maps. Chupathingy can join them.
What you need
- Chupathingy 0.7.0b or later, on any platform. Download: the latest release.
- Your own Xbox copy of Halo, set up as usual. You still need the Xbox maps.
- The game's map, from your own Halo PC (Custom Edition) install. The game card names the file, for example
timberland.map.
Where the maps go
Make a maps_ce folder next to the game's maps folder and copy the .map files in, together with
bitmaps.map, sounds.map and loc.map, which every Halo PC map uses. Keep the Xbox maps in maps.
- Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/ChupathingyCE/maps_ce/ - Linux:
maps_ce/next to thehaloprogram - Windows:
maps_ce\next tohalo.exe
Put Halo PC's own ui.map in the same folder to get the maps' proper names and pictures.
Joining
In the game, open Multiplayer, Online Games (or Server Browser in the PC menus). Halo PC games are marked HALO PC. If you have the map, press A to join; if not, the game tells you which file it needs. Join on this site's game cards works the same way.
Chupathingy never provides game files. Use maps from your own Halo PC install.
HaloMD maps
HaloMD maps come from the Mac Halo community and were made for Halo PC 1.0. Games on them are marked HALOMD. They need a Chupathingy release with HaloMD map support, on a Mac, on Linux, or in the 64-bit Windows build.
- Download the game's map from HaloMD's mod list yourself. The game card names the file, for example
bgplus_5.map. You need that exact file. - Put it in a
maps_mdfolder beside the game'smapsfolder: on a Mac,~/Library/Application Support/ChupathingyCE/maps_md/; on Linux,maps_md/next to thehaloprogram; on Windows,maps_md\next tohalo.exe. - HaloMD maps also need
bitmaps.map,sounds.mapandloc.mapfrom your own Halo PC install, inmaps_ceas above.
HaloMD's plug-ins aren't part of Chupathingy, so maps made for a gameplay plug-in play as plain Halo.
